Laurence Huntley joins Mimio
Laurence Huntley (MSc Management & Business Studies 1973-74) has been elected as General Manager of Mimio, a provider of learning technologies, effective from June 1st 2010.
In 2006, Mimio became part of Newell Rubbermaid, a respected global business leader. Along with sister companies CardScan, DYMO, and Endicia, Mimio is part of the division of Newell Rubbermaid that has brought innovative, technology-based tools to education and business environments. Headquartered in Cambridge, MA, Mimio sells and distributes its products in over 45 countries.
With more than 25 years of experience as a senior executive in marketing, sales and management for international companies in the software, IT and telecommunications industries, Huntley will steer the company in its efforts to bolster global market share through its family of easy-to-use teaching tools.
"Laurence is both a visionary and a pragmatist, and those traits coupled with his strong leadership qualities have enabled him to guide and grow many successful companies," said David Klatt, President, Technology Brands Global Business Unit at Newell Rubbermaid. "We feel certain that his stewardship will further strengthen the Mimio brand and enable the company to continue its rapid growth throughout the world."
Huntley, who comes to Mimio after serving as interim Chief Marketing Officer for Promethean, had previously worked in senior-level marketing and operations positions at Cable & Wireless, Equant, British Telecom and Krone. He has also owned and operated his own management consulting business for companies in the U.S. and Europe.
Early in his career, Huntley served for a year as a volunteer teacher in the African nation of Ghana, part of the British Council Voluntary Service Overseas Program. That experience brought him a unique perspective on education and classroom instruction, particularly useful for leading the Mimio organization.
"My year in Ghana and recent experience at Promethean taught me that if you give students the right opportunities and the right tools, they will amaze you with what they can achieve," said Huntley. "That is why I am so excited to be leading Mimio. Our technology enables educators to engage with students more creatively and effectively, with advanced teaching tools that open up an entirely new world of learning."
In addition to his Warwick MBA, Huntley is a Sloan Fellow of the London Business School and holds a Bachelor of Arts, with honours, from the University of London.
