Tinned tuna reels in major supermarkets
Alumna Angela Fitzpatrick is celebrating after securing deals to get her own brand of pole and line caught tuna onto the shelves of Asda, The Co-operative, Waitrose, Tesco and Sainsbury's.
Angela, a graduate from the Warwick MBA, and her business partner set up The Reel Fish Co. two years ago. After years of working in the canned fish industry they'd both become frustrated at the lack of a sustainable tinned fish option.
The range of products they launched now boasts the accolade of being the only branded canned tuna which is 'never from nets', considered by Greenpeace to be the most environmentally friendly method of catching tuna.
The tagline of the brand 'Better for Everyone', summarises how the environment, fishing communities and consumers alike get a fair deal from the product.
Angela believes her MBA has been integral to the success of The Reel Fish Co. in entering the £400 million UK canned fish market. 'My MBA gave me the confidence and the know-how to get to this point not to mention the credibility to be taken seriously by financial backers; the working capital requirement for canned tuna is a minimum £3M.'
