Masters student insight - Highlights from my first term at WBS

26 January 2017

In our first postgraduate student insight blog, Generalist Masters students share their highlights from the first term of studying at WBS.

Todd Gibson
MSc Business (Accounting and Finance)

"The first term of the course was a great time for me. Meeting loads of new people who are all likeminded, looking deeper into a new field and taking part of the extended campus life ensured I had, and continue to have, an amazing time at Warwick.

Highlights for me were joining societies across campus and making loads of new friends, both on my course and outside. The atmosphere around Warwick is extremely welcoming so I recommend any newcomers to just get stuck in! This year has been one of the best of my life so far!"

Araba Sagoe
MSc Business (Marketing)

"The highlight of the first term for me was the Strategy Analysis & Practice module. The interactive nature of the lectures and study of the business strategies of well-known companies through case studies really brought the subject matter to life. I particularly enjoyed creating a video with my team for the Walmart case study. It was a fun, creative and analytical exercise and I learnt a lot from it."

Linh Le
MSc Management

"Although it was only the first term of my course, lots of knowledge and information has already been provided. It is eye-opening to learn about how businesses operate and all the factors that should be considered for effective management. I believe my business skills have also been enhanced significantly through practical simulations and applications offered.

Beside the course, the amount of support I received from professors and the Management team was truly amazing. All of my questions and requests have always been effectively and promptly handled. Overall, I really enjoy my time here at the University and can't wait to learn more in such a supportive environment."

Sakshi Gupta
MSc Business (Financial Management)

"Just three months into the course and I've already made memories for life. From getting opportunities to go on day trips organised by WBS to making friends from around the world, first term definitely exceeded the expectations I came with. The highlight of my last term was the free Oxford day trip I won from one of the Warwick societies. It was a nice break from my daily classes and assignments.

WBS has provided me with everything a student needs, career guidance, quality teaching, free printing, a 24/7 study space, café for food. I've thoroughly enjoyed learning and living at the University of Warwick and I'm quite excited to see what the next term will be like."

Maria Townley-Wells
MSc Business (Consulting)

"Having had no prior knowledge of, or background in, business I was excited by (and I must confess initially slightly daunted!) at the prospect of studying the MSc in Business (Consulting) at WBS. However, I need not have worried.

The high quality of the teaching has enabled me to grasp new concepts quickly, and the practical insights into the world of consulting are second to none. The opportunity to learn from leading thinkers in the industry; a mixture of professional consultants and academics, has been invaluable to me. The breadth and scope of the course gives you the flexibility to follow what you are genuinely interested in, and the practical nature of the modules takes the theoretical knowledge learned and allows you to see how this can be applied in the world of consulting. The exposure to new thoughts and ideas, as well the practical insights, have been a personal highlight for me so far."

Alice Arnold
MSc International Business

"My first term and my own progress have exceeded my expectations. Coming from a non-business background, I was anxious about taking on a completely new subject and the level of difficulty that I would have to tackle. However, I have found the work manageable, stimulating and above all enjoyable. I have learnt so much already and I am excited to progress further through the great choice of modules on offer.'"
