Getting every child into school and learning; why wait?

Sir Michael Barber (Chief Education Advisor, Pearson) is a leading authority on education systems and education reform. He will deliver a Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Lecture on Getting every child into school and learning; why wait? on Tuesday 29th April 2014.

Barber is the Founder of the EDI. He previously served the UK government as Head of the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit (from 2001-2005) and as Chief Adviser to the Secretary of State for Education on School Standards (from 1997-2001).

The lecture will examine the task of getting all the worlds primary age children into school and learning. A recent UNESCO report said that at present rates it would take decades more to achieve universal education.

Using the example of a bold reform in Punjab Pakistan, the lecture will argue that if we had the will and a systematic approach to implementation, universal education could be achieved within a decade. Speeches at the UN and reports are not enough ...
