Biography
Disputes arbitrator, and mediator for Advisory Conciliation and Arbitration Service for many years. Deputy Chair of the Central Arbitration Committee since 1994. Chair, Local Government Pay Commission 2002-3. Standing Arbitrator for GCHQ; Former Vice Chair of the Industrial Law Society; former President of the British Universites Industrial Relations Association (1998-2001). Visiting appointments held at universities in Australia and the USA. Became an MBE in 2002 for services to employment relations. Appointed Independent member of Acas Council, 2010
Research interests
Legal regulation and industrial relations; equality and diversity in employment; employment dispute settlement; public policy and employment practice, and collective bargaining.
