Centre for Small & Medium-Sized Enterprises
The Centre for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (CSME) is an integral part of WBS. It was established in 1984 by Ian Watson to undertake training for the Department of Employment and to teach on both undergraduate and postgraduate courses within WBS.
The research side of the centre's activities was established in 1987. David Storey joined the centre at that time bringing with him a £1m research grant from the ESRC to co-ordinate the largest research programme undertaken on small business in the United Kingdom.
The research objectives of the centre are to:
- Undertake research with a view to publication in academic journals of the highest quality
- Satisfy fully the funding bodies of the research
- Disseminate widely the results of our research.
In 1998 the centre established a doctoral programme in Entrepreneurship and Smaller Business. The objective of the doctoral programme is to build a cadre of high quality graduate students working at the cutting edge of research in this exciting and growing area.
The centre also offers two courses at undergraduate level, and teaches on the The Warwick MBA study programme.
