Strategy, Organisational Learning and Resilience
The Strategy, Organisational Learning and Resilience (SOLAR) research unit was formed in 2002 and represents a new focus for scholars researching in the field of strategy and organisation.
The unit has attracted funding from the ESRC and other sources to further research and develop a deep theoretical and empirical understanding of this, as yet, undeveloped intellectual terrain. The Unit aims to investigate issues at both the theoretical and applied levels.
SOLAR is currently concentrating on four broad areas of research which have been unresolved problems for both scholars and practitioners alike:
- Networks and new forms of organisation, the aim being to establish a clear understanding of how network forms operate and what characteristics might be associated with more and less successful networks
- Teams in organisations, in particular those set up to provide and stimulate innovation in organisations
- Strategic decision making, particularly the problems of implementation
- Inter-organisational relationships between business schools and corporate MBA sponsoring organisations. The research aims to uncover patterns, themes, and characteristics of strategy and learning in an educational context.
