Innovative work results in team win for 'MBA Student of the Year Award'

9 June 2011

Warwick Business School's MBA participants have recently gone through a nomination process to select their student of the year. All study modes - distance learning, full-time, executive, and Global Energy - took part. Some truly excellent nominations were received, making the final decision on the overall winner a very difficult one.

In the end, it was not a single individual chosen as the winner, but a team. The 5-strong team members are John Armstrong (UK), Brent Brough and Gage Garner (Canadian), Shawn Le Maitre (Trinidadian and Tobagoan), and Juergen Ritzek (German), all taking the Global Energy MBA. They were chosen because of a particular initiative they set up and ran on behalf of their cohort. They were instrumental in creating and running an investment club to track the progress of companies studied on the Global Energy MBA in order for the class to monitor the performance of their investments over the period of the course.

Rachel Killian, MBA Marketing & Recruitment Manager, who managed the judging, commented, "John, Brent, Shawn, Juergen and Gage have shown enthusiasm, dedication and initiative in creating and running this club. It has resulted in greater involvement from Global Energy MBA participants beyond the residential periods, and helped with the engagement of their fellow students when studying away from Warwick. It has also provided a great opportunity to apply lessons learned from the course and to give a real appreciation of 'live' changes within the energy industry."
