Delegates from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad visit WBS

29 September 2011

Earlier this month, 22 delegates from the prestigious Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) arrived at Warwick Business School for two weeks, as part of the International Immersion element of their course, the Postgraduate Programme for Executives - a one year full-time Executive MBA. The over-arching aim of the module is to give a solid understanding of business in Europe and the challenges facing British businesses. This is the third year in which IIM-A delegates have visited WBS.

WBS had prepared a bespoke module for the group comprising eight days of lectures, cases and group discussion, where leading WBS academics delivered intensive sessions on a range of subjects, plus two days of company visits.

IIM-A delegate Amitesh Tyagi reports:
"The first two weeks of September were well spent in the plush campus of the University of Warwick while enjoying the warm hospitality of WBS. The module was filled with learning about various aspects of Euro Zone business and economics, sessions on marketing trends and techniques, behavioral science, entrepreneurship, organizational behavior among others.

The entire gamut of topics added more depth and more breadth to our scope of learning and every single day spent in WBS was a day well spent. These were coupled with practical learning through industry visits to an auto-manufacturer's R&D establishment, facility for a major telecom organization, and an award-winning fully automated crisp maker (or what are called chips in our part of the world) of one of world's largest soft beverage manufacturer.

A WBS-hosted talk with a Bank of England representative not only gave us insight into the future of Euro Zone and World economics as seen by BoE, but also highlighted the strength of WBS alumni in continuously engaging in bringing knowledge to the doorstep of their alma mater.

The hassle-free and smooth execution of the whole programme also showed the strength and commitment of the WBS administration. I would like to specially congratulate Ms Sam Brook, who made sure that we had all the learning material in the classroom and helped outside the class as well - whether it was for learning about the area in and around campus or about places to visit and experience in the UK in general.

I would personally recommend WBS to prospective students in India and would also highly encourage future batches from IIM Ahmedabad to go to WBS for their International Immersion Programme."

Jon Lees, Executive Director for the Warwick MBA, commented, "We were delighted to host another outstanding group of visiting PGPX students from IIMA. The combination of a topical curriculum, industry visits and speakers, and an opportunity for some relaxation and networking, proved very popular with the students. This is a further important step in cementing our relationship and we look forward to sending our first Warwick MBA students to IIMA this spring."

In this image, WBS Dean Professor Mark Taylor is holding a plaque presented to him by the IIMA delegates. The plaque is a replica of the Siddi Saiyad Jaali, one of the screen windows at the Siddi Saiyad mosque in the centre of the old city of Ahmedabad. The original is an example of sixteenth-century stone tracery decorating a mosque built in 1573 by a Siddi General. The Siddis are Africans who have been living in India for centuries.
