INFORMS workshop does what it says

INFORMS delegatesProfessor Stewart Robinson reports on a recent successful research workshop hosted by WBS.

Leading figures in the field of simulation modelling met at Warwick Business School last month for the biennial INFORMS Simulation Society Research Workshop. INFORMS is the US-based Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences.

The theme of the conference was the interface between modelling and analysis. This engendered a series of lively discussions as two groups that are normally separated by conference streams enjoyed the opportunity to debate simulation issues from both a modelling and an analysis perspective.

Keynote papers were given by Bruce Schmeiser (Purdue University), Peter Lendermann (D-SIMLAB Technologies, Singapore), Russell Cheng (University of Southampton), Doug Morris (University of Texas in Austin) and Mike Pidd (University of Lancaster).

Some rare good weather added to the enjoyment of the workshop, along with a conference reception at Radcliffe House. We also had an enjoyable evening on a tour of historic Coventry followed by a conference dinner in the 13th century Guildhall.

The attendees were impressed with both the content of the workshop and the facilities at WBS. "The Workshop was one of the best and most productive professional gatherings that I've ever attended. Congratulations on a very good show indeed," commented K. Preston White (University of Virginia).
