Choppy waters for WBS Yacht Club in recent Regatta
3 August 2011
It was a rainy afternoon in Portsmouth when Skipper Chris Best and First Mate Panos Anastasiou of the WBS Yacht Club reached Port Solent, to participate in the 2011 Cranfield Regatta.
Joining another 35 crews, Warwick's aim was to retain its top position in the Global MBA Sailing league. Unfortunately, luck was definitely not on the Warwick crew's side. Sailing shorthanded on Saturday with 7 people and with 6 on Sunday, the crew gave its all to be as competitive as possible, but finished in 22nd place in the Regatta, and is now 11th in the MBA Sailing League.
Panos commented, "Overall it was a fun two days of sailing and training for the relatively inexperienced crew, who faced different wind and racing conditions. We are now looking to improve our position by the time of the final regatta of the season, the Italian race in September organized by SDA Bocconi in Santa Margherita, Italy."
As well as Chris and Panos, the crew members were Christos Boinis, Jasbir Sembhi, Shelley McIvor, Steve Tan, and Zhanel Adilova. Skipper Chris will be among another crew of the WBS Yacht Club to compete in the RSM Regatta in Holland later this month.
In other news, the official WBS Yacht Club website will be ready to launch early October, aiming to provide a virtual home base for all WBS sailors, including news on upcoming racing and training events and much more.
Chris sends out this invitation to WBS students and alumni, "The WBS Yacht Club is always interested in new members so if any current students or alumni from the wider WBS Alumni Association are interested in joining us, please contact me Chris Best or join us on our Facebook page."
