WBS professor advises influential think tank on IT policy for the NHS

2 June 2010

Dr Wendy Currie, WBS Professor of Information Systems and Director of the International Policy and Technology Research Unit, recently advised CentreForum, a think tank, on future policy for the National Health Service with regard to its use of IT.

CentreForum is an independent, liberal think-tank seeking to develop evidence-based policy solutions to the problems facing Britain.

Norman Lamb MP, when he was Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, wrote the report The NHS: a liberal blueprint earlier this year. He is now Chief Parliamentary and Political Adviser to the Deputy Prime Minister.

Professor Currie was critical of the national IT programme, particularly the
National Programme for Information Technology (NPfIT), which "lacked three essential requirements for realising tangible benefits."
