Warwick Business School Trains E-Tutors for the Future

The learning resources developers within Warwick Business School's Distance Learning MBA team have developed an online training course aimed at preparing participants for their new roles as online tutors.

This new initiative is necessary to prepare tutors for the new online e-business course developed for the Distance Learning MBA. This course will place international groups of MBA students within virtual groups, engaging them in collaborative group work, facilitated by the newly-trained tutors. This development will allow those studying by distance learning to experience the positive benefits of group work which are regularly acclaimed as a major benefit by those completing the MBA by full time, modular and evening study.

"We see it as most important that the tutors to receive their training online, it gives them a greater understanding and experience of what it might be like to be online learners." said Stuart Sutherland of the learning resources development team.

"While the role of the online tutors draws upon many traditional teaching and tutoring skills, there are unique elements to this new skill-set which we want our tutors to be aware of and to reflect on." he added.

Longer term, the Distance learning MBA wish to develop online tutoring and offer it to a wider range of academic staff to build up a body of experienced e-tutors who will be able to add value to planned future course developments.

WBS was one of the first business schools in the world to offer DLMBA when it launched in 1985.
