Accounting for prizes at Warwick Business School
Two undergraduate students from WBS have been awarded prizes for their excellent work in Accounting. Both are from Malaysia, Mr Sau Khoon Kuah is 21, and Ms Su-Hsien Lim, 20. They are now in their second year of studying for a BSc in Accounting & Finance.
They each received a prize of a cheque for £50 together with a signed Certificate from Michelle Mitchell, Senior Manager in the Audit Department at the Birmingham office of Deloitte. Deloitte is one of the biggest international players in the professional services arena working in Audit, Tax, Consulting and Corporate Finance.
Sau Khoon said "I am honoured that my effort in this module has been recognised through this award from Deloitte. I hope that such awards will be given every year to encourage students to pursue excellence in this course. The excellent result surely has justified my career choice which is to pursue a career in auditing. As for the prize money, I have decided to buy my lovely housemates dinner in Coventry."
Su-Hsien said "It was a pleasant surprise when Dr Scarparo contacted me to tell me I was a prize winner. I plan to do either an MBA or a CA in the UK after my undergraduate degree, and hopefully work in the UK after that. This welcome prize from Deloitte will probably go towards my winter break plans."
The prizes were presented at the start of a lecture on Accounting in Context to over 350 first-year students by Dr Simona Scarparo of WBS.
Simona said "It is good for our students to receive this recognition from such a prestigious organisation as Deloitte, and we are grateful to them for sponsoring these prizes. Students of WBS are among the most sought after by recruiters once they have graduated. These prizes for Sau Khoon and Su-Hsien will be of benefit for their future CV as well as helping them now in a practical way."
