Prize-winning graduate celebrates twice over
During this week, several hundred students are celebrating their graduation at the University of Warwick and Warwick Business School. One graduate, Rebecca McDermott, is celebrating twice over; she is the recipient of a prize of £500 for the Corporate Strategy module, which formed part of her degree studies.
This is the first time Warwick Business School has awarded a Strategy prize, which is created by Dr Duncan Angwin of the Marketing & Strategic Management Group, and sponsored by the UK-based Management Consultancies Association (MCA).
Peter Hill, Chief Executive of MCA, commented, "Rebecca is a top-class graduate from an excellent institution, and we are delighted to accept the invitation to sponsor this prize. Management consulting relies on such excellence to provide the best possible service to business."
WBS Deputy Dean and Professor of Strategy, David Wilson said, "WBS is very grateful for the support of the MCA in awarding this prize. Strategy is the backbone of business, and it is good that an organisation representing management consultancies, where strategy and its development is key, should be involved."
The founder of the award and academic in charge of the Corporate Strategy course, Duncan Angwin, Associate Professor of Strategic Management at WBS, is delighted to be able to recognise excellent student achievement with the support of the MCA. Duncan praised Rebecca's work, "Rebecca's achievement is outstanding. She gained the highest marks in the exam and also obtained the highest overall score for the course. Overall, Rebecca gave the best performance in the Corporate Strategy module. She entirely deserves this prize."
Rebecca graduated with a First in BSc in Philosophy, Politics & Economics. She is one of around 1,250 Warwick students who choose annually to study a module or modules taught at WBS. This is in addition to the 1,024 undergraduate students who are currently studying for a WBS-specific degree, and a further 900 who are taking joint and associated degrees with other departments.
