WBS invests £20 Million

In a demonstration of its confidence in the future, WBS has announced a £20 million investment in a significant further extension to its facilities. Work will begin early in 2009 and when completed in 2010 will reach across four storeys. The latest phase will provide state of the art teaching and study facilities, including lecture theatres, syndicate and seminar rooms, as well as additional teaching and office space alongside social amenities and a cafeteria for staff and students.

Professor Howard Thomas, Dean of Warwick Business School (WBS), is pleased to announce the £20 million investment which marks the final stage in the current round of investment in the business school which has been worth over £37.5 million in total. Professor Thomas said: "Warwick Business School has gained an international reputation for quality research, innovation and teaching and we are recognised as one of the top business schools in the world. This reputation has ensured that applications from highly qualified prospective students have remained strong, even in this difficult economic climate. This new phase of our development represents a significant financial investment but it is a demonstration of our confidence in the future."

Branching across four storeys, the latest phase will provide state of the art teaching and study facilities, including lecture theatres, syndicate and seminar rooms, as well as additional teaching and office space alongside social amenities and a cafeteria for staff and students. In combination with the first two phases of development, this investment will ensure that WBS has some of the best facilities in Europe. Construction work is due to commence in summer 2009, with planned completion by Christmas 2010.

Warwick Business School occupies a strategic position at the heart of the 300 hectare University of Warwick campus and, being on a major access route, the new building will feature landmark architectural detailing designed to give it a unique presence. Key to this will be two lecture theatres suspended in a structural bubble located between two arms of the four storey main building. This will be enclosed by a central atria and project through the curtain wall at high level.

Peter Harris, Project Manager for the University of Warwick Estates, said: "The University masterplan has been designed as a flexible framework allowing for phased expansion, and the latest development proposals at WBS are a prime example of the way in which we can continue to respond to the changing needs of our students. This phase will see us further cementing our position as one of the most respected higher education institutions in the UK."
