The CFA Society of the UK has announced that Warwick Business School has won the UK final of the third annual Global Investment Research Challenge, the national leg of a global competition open to universities to find the best student equity research analyst team worldwide.
The winning team of Lars P Myklebust, Don Corea, Usman Adam, Andrew Lee, and Eivind Egeland Olsen, are all currently studying the MSc Finance & Economics course. They will now face the winning universities from France, Ireland, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and Turkey at the European regional final, to be held on 1st April in London, United Kingdom.
The Challenge will culminate in the global final on April 2nd at Thomson Reuters' headquarters in London, UK. Winners from the European, Asia Pacific and North American regional challenges will compete against each other to be named overall winner of the competition.
The UK final, hosted by The CFA Society of the UK, saw Warwick Business School compete against the University of Stirling and the University of Edinburgh to produce an equity research report on publicly traded company Intermediate Capital Group Plc (ICG). The teams are mentored by industry professionals and must present their report to a respected panel of leaders and experts, who score them on the report's findings, the delivery of the presentation and their ability to answer the judges' questions.
Commenting on the event, Will Goodhart, CEO of The CFA Society of the UK, said: 'The Global Investment Research Challenge is a unique opportunity for aspiring young analysts to be exposed to prospective employers in a way that allows them to show their analytical talent. This is a great way to showcase their abilities and can even provide a head start in a difficult and challenging job market. By taking part, universities can provide students with practical training and exposure to leading industry professionals. We are grateful to the mentors and panellists who donate their time to the Challenge in order to promote best practices in research to the next generation.'
