Masters students win project prize from The Lanner Group

Award-winning Masters students with Geoff Hook of The Lanner GroupThe MSc in Business Analytics and Consulting (MSBAC) is the newest specialist Masters course at Warwick Business School. Together with its sister course, the longest-running MSc Management Science and Operational Research (MSOR), students on the two courses benefit from advice and support of external members on the Course Advisory Board.

One such member is The Lanner Group, which has been on the Board since 2006. The business process analysis company specialises in software for simulation and produces the software application WITNESS. WITNESS is one of the world's leading business simulation systems and is used by Operational Research practitioners.

The Lanner Group kindly decided this year to sponsor again an award for students on the two courses for the best consulting report of the Conducting Management Projects module. A group of four MSBAC students collected the prize of '200 earlier this month at the annual Lanner Conference, held at the Thinktank in Birmingham.

Their winning project was on Winter gritting in Cumbria for the Highways Agency, where their work compared costs of salting strategies and determined new gritting routes and spread rates. They are Mateusz Dudarski, Stefan Kisyov, Amit Kukadia and Sadia Zia Awan.

Giles Hindle, Assistant Professor of Operational Research, and Vladimir Deineko, Associate Professor of Operational Research, were the judges for the award. Giles commented, "The students' consulting performance was judged on the quality of analysis, clarity of presentation and the value it created for the client. We are very grateful to Geoff Hook and The Lanner Group for their support of our students and for this award."
