Minister Announces Members of Anglesey Recovery Board
The Board will advise the Welsh Assembly Government on the Isle of Anglesey County Council's recovery from the serious problems which the Auditor General for Wales identified in a report published in July.
Dr Gibbons said
"I am very pleased to be able to appoint Professor Elan Closs Stephens CBE to chair the recovery Board, and to appoint Sue Essex, Bill Horne, Richard Parry Hughes, Dr Zoë Radnor, Mel Usher and Graham Williams as Board members.
"This is a high-calibre Board. The people who have been appointed have considerable understanding of public-sector management problems from a wide range of perspectives. Their expertise will greatly assist in securing the rapid and sustainable recovery that we all want.
"I am also pleased that three of the Board's members - Elan, Richard and Graham - are fluent Welsh-speakers. I recognise the importance of the Welsh language within the Council and on the island, and these appointments will ensure that anyone who wishes to discuss issues with a Board member through the medium of Welsh will be able to do so.
"The Council will be obliged to work with the Recovery Board. The Board will be advisory. It will monitor the Council's progress towards recovery and advise me accordingly and may also advise the Council on possible courses of action. However, responsibility for recovery rests with the Council."
