Excellent WBS research wins international recognition
Research carried out by Sotirios Paroutis and Loizos Heracleous from the Marketing and Strategic Management Group was recently recognised with an Honourable Mention at the Strategic Management Society (SMS) Finland conference this Spring. The conference was on the topic of Intersections of Strategy Processes and Strategy Practices. The US-based Strategic Management Society (SMS) is a non-profit organization with more than 2,500 members representing a kaleidoscope of backgrounds and perspectives from more than 60 different countries. Members come from academia, business, and consultancy, and focus on the development and dissemination of insights on the strategic management process, as well as on fostering contacts and interchange around the world.
Out of 100 papers presented at the conference, only 4 were recognized at the awards ceremony dinner. The paper by Sotirios and Loizos is titled First order strategy discourse: the strategy meaning-making process in practice.
A committee of leading US and European strategy scholars chose the best papers, based on soundness of the conceptual development, originality and new contribution(s), appropriate methodology well applied, relevance to management practice and effective communication of the central ideas of the work.
Sotirios comments, "Yet again WBS research has been recognized at an international conference attracting leading strategy scholars and practitioners from 22 countries. Dealing with the intersections of strategy process and practice is becoming increasingly important in leading-edge strategy research. We received a lot of positive feedback from delegates during the conference and look forward to developing this line of research even further."
Sotirios also participated in the concluding panel on future directions of strategy process and practice research.
