CIPD re-accreditation is no rubber stamp
Warwick Business School's MA in Industrial Relations & Managing Human Resources (MAIRMH) has successfully undergone a rigorous re-accreditation exercise by Europe's largest HR professional body, the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD).
Students seeking CIPD accreditation take a specific pathway through their MA, known as the CIPD route. This involves an additional module, delivered throughout the academic year, as well as associated activities that enable students to demonstrate continuing professional development.
Catherine Gordon, Administrative Director for Specialist Masters at WBS, commented, "Gaining this re-accreditation was by no means a rubber-stamping exercise. It involved an in-depth review of the MA course content, teaching and learning methods, and assessment methods and quality procedures. It also involved a visit by the CIPD's Quality Assurance Panel, who met with key staff including the course's External Examiners."
Although the CIPD has recently changed its membership structures, students taking this option will still meet the knowledge element of their criteria for Chartered Membership if they complete it successfully. Between a third and a half of the total intake choose to work and study for this extra option each year.
The CIPD's Quality Assurance Panel commended the course and its content and was particularly impressed by the high value placed on the CIPD route by students, who described their experience as "brilliant!".
Course Director, Dr Anne-Marie Greene said, "We are delighted that this MA has been re-accredited by the CIPD. Our objective in teaching and learning is to produce professional graduates, as defined by the CIPD's concept of the 'thinking performer.' The course's link with its professional body enhances students' operational skills, as they progress into roles that focus on the management and development of people within organisations."
Further information
The attendance pattern for a full-time student on the CIPD pathway would typically be 15-20 hours of class time per term-time week, spread over four or five days, with further guided independent study up to a combined total of 35 hours per week.
Warwick Business School is recognised internationally for the provision of teaching and research in employment relations and a Masters qualification has been delivered here for more than 40 years. The current MAIRMHR was comprehensively reviewed and relaunched less than a year ago.
The course can be taken on a full-time basis over one year (October to September) or on a part-time basis over two years. Full-time and part-time students cover the same material.
