Sources of funding
There are a number of different funding opportunities available to you as a doctoral researcher at WBS. For up to date information on funding availability we recommend that you refer to the Graduate School Portal.
The deadline is approaching for some awards for October 2010 entry. These are highlighted below.
Please note that, in most cases, you need to hold an offer of a place on our Doctoral Programme to be eligible for funding. Please check the eligibility criteria before you apply. We recommend early application.
WBS Scholarships and Bursaries
- WBS Scholarships
- We have funds available to support exceptional applicants to our Doctoral Programme. To be eligible for consideration for one of these scholarships we would expect you to apply for other funding opportunities as detailed below. If you are successful in being awarded a Scholarship you will be notified in June.
- WBS Bursaries
- We offer a bursary scheme for doctoral researchers in the second year or above. The bursaries are offered on a competitive basis and current doctoral researchers are invited to apply each year. Successful applicants receive a bursary for the following academic year and are required to re-apply for subsequent years as appropriate.
- NEW IKON Studentship
- IKON is offering one studentship to run until the end of December 2012. This covers tuition fees up to UK/EU level, plus a standard living allowance currently £13,290 per annum for 2009/10. The studentship is linked to a new three year project funded by the Service Delivery Organisation of the National Institute for Health Research. The project will be examining the way in which new evidence and ideas produced by research are translated into practice within the UK's National Health Service. Fieldwork in three UK sites will be complemented by the study of equivalent institutions in the USA and Canada to provide a comparative evaluation of developments in the UK. You will play a specified role within this project focusing on the attitudes and perceptions of different groups towards translating research into practice. You should have a postgraduate degree or equivalent experience in one or more of the following areas: organisational psychology, organisational studies, sociology. Knowledge of the health sector would be an advantage. You will follow the standard doctoral programme route within WBS.
- IKON Research Scholarships
- For 2010 entry, the WBS Innovation, Knowledge & Organizational Networks centre is inviting applications for doctoral research scholarships to run for three years, subject to satisfactory progress. These provide £10,000 per annum which can be used towards WBS PhD fees and/or living expenses. Successful applicants were able to fully participate in the IKON Research Centre activities. Application deadline: 15 June 2010.
