Sponsored study: The Coutts story

The Warwick MBA has enabled Stuart to consolidate his experiential learning and develop a broader cross-functional perspective of business. The scenario planning project has added real value to our business. Specifically, the process itself developed a shared understanding amongst the key management team of what might really matter to 'win' in Private Banking in the future. The outputs of the exercise have been used by the executive team to confirm what should be our key strategic priorities.

Coutts sponsored my studies and really benefited from my work. My project and dissertation made a major contribution to the business. I ran a scenario planning exercise for the Private Bank and the key outputs from this have been included in the thinking of the executive team and subsequently the detailed strategic planning.

My project enabled the management team to hear about potential changes in industry, technology, and society and then debate how this might translate to our business. The result was both confirmation of the fit (or not) of existing strategic plans, plus the identification of a small number of areas where it was felt we should invest now to create options for the future.

The project itself was challenging. At just four weeks' notice I ran a conference including leading external speakers and structured workshops for some 50 senior managers, showing what can be achieved with focus and executive support.

The project and dissertation taught me both personal organisation skills and developed my understanding of how to manage groups of people. Personally I had to manage my time, learn how to structure the report, and maintain my motivation during the three months it took to complete.
