I feel I can really make a difference now

When I first joined the Warwick MBA I was working in HR, teaching and training. Having completed my first year I took a position as a Financial Analyst and, although interesting, I knew it wasn't what I wanted to invest my time and effort in.

Taking WBS modules such as Corporate Citizenship [now Business in Society] and Management of Change made me realise that I could use my business skills and really do something 'useful' either working in CSR or in the not-for-profit sector. So when I left the investment company I was working for, I decided to treat it as an opportunity to explore the issues further.

My ex-employer allowed me work on my consultancy project with them, analysing their CSR/SRI position to help them implement a policy. I also attended the Doing Good and Doing Well conference held at IESE in Barcelona which focused on how the current economic downturn is impacting social and environmental efforts driven by business. I've taken two Human Rights courses over the last couple of months here in Barcelona and then undertook three weeks voluntary work in Morocco with a study focus on analysing and implementing social and economic development projects.

There is a demand for business skills and expertise in the not-for-profit sector just as an awareness of social issues is becoming desirable in the business world. The tools and skills I have learnt are immediately applicable as I work towards a consultancy position advising on responsible consumption. The Warwick MBA has given me the confidence and credibility to engage in meaningful discussions and project work in a sector where I feel I can really make a difference.
