How do you learn?

The Warwick MBA by distance learning is an internationally recognised and accredited programme, giving you the traditional MBA learning experience - taking part in syndicate group work, discussing hot topics with your colleagues, learning to apply management tools and techniques, and working through case studies - but in a much more flexible way, thanks to the ability to work online.

As long as you have regular and reliable internet access, the Warwick MBA by distance learning can give you a fully collaborative MBA, whilst still fitting in around your other commitments.

Distance learning explained

my.wbs
The WBS intranet, my.wbs, is the hub of your learning. Here you'll find programme and subject information and support, including access to libraries, study skills support and careers information. It's also central to your communication with WBS, tutors and the whole Warwick MBA community, with places for networking and discussions.
Study materials

Each module has a set of tailor-made multimedia study materials, usually divided into ten lessons. Additional reading and resources such as case studies or management textbooks to help you work through the material are either supplied or signposted and you will also have timetabled activities throughout the duration of each module. Everything (apart from textbooks) are online, so you can access them 24/7.

Video and audio clips are integrated into each module to enhance your learning. Many of these feature WBS faculty and inspirational business leaders. They give you a break from reading too.

Subject tutors
You will be supported in each module by a team of subject tutors. They will facilitate wbsLive sessions, moderate online discussions and offer explanations and clarification, and make sure you are up to date with subject-relevant topical information. You are strongly encouraged to submit optional formative Tutor Marked Assignments; your subject tutor will mark these and give you feedback on your performance, which will help you reflect on and monitor your own progress.
wbsLive: the virtual classroom
For each subject, there will be at least two seminars that make use of our virtual classroom, wbsLive. These may be lectures with time for Q&A, tutor-led seminars or focused revision sessions. wbsLive gives you the opportunity to interact in real-time with other DL participants around the world. And if time differences or other commitments mean you can't join us live, every session is recorded and available to view later.
Discussion forums
We believe that studying shouldn't be a purely individual activity. You can often learn more from working with each other. The discussion forums in my.wbs give you a flexible and safe environment for collaboration and communication with your peers. Explore ideas with others, ask and answer questions, and solve problems together. Do this and you will deepen your learning, feel less isolated, and have a more enjoyable experience overall. Never underestimate how much you can learn from each other, and how much you can develop yourself by helping others.
Study groups
All DL participants are placed in international syndicate groups of 10 people so that you can create strong relationships with students from different backgrounds, business disciplines, industries and locations around the world to support your learning experience. You'll have the option of joining more online study groups too. Some modules will require you to join a syndicate group for subject-based groupwork. If there are other students based in or near your location, then we strongly recommend that you meet face-to-face for further support.
e-Tests
You will be able to check your learning and understanding via online self-assessment tests in many modules. These multiple choice tests provide immediate feedback on your answers, helping you to evaluate your own understanding and see which topics you may need to spend more time on. You can take the tests as often as you like. This is invaluable at revision time.
Online library resources
As a Warwick student, you have free online access to full-text articles from a wide range of business and management journals. There's no need to visit your library in person. All the resources you need are easily accessible online.
Assessment

All Warwick MBA assessments are designed to test your ability to apply the techniques and knowledge acquired while you study, not to test your memory. Many subjects include case study analysis, and expect you to draw on examples from your own experience.

Three core modules - Modelling & Analysis for Management, Marketing, and Operations Management - are assessed by traditional examination. We have exam centres all over the world. You can choose to take your exams either at Warwick or at a location closer to you.

Accounting & Financial Management is assessed by an open-book online exam. You can sit this exam anywhere you choose, within a specified 24-hour period.

Other modules are assessed by written assignments, which can give you the opportunity to apply your learning to your own organisation. A small number of electives include online groupwork as part of the assessment.
