United States

British Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in the United Kingdom. They are open only to United States citizens who, at the time they take up their Scholarship, hold a first degree from an accredited four-year college or university in the United States with a minimum GPA of 3.7.

There are several federal programmes available for US citizens or eligible non-citizens who are enrolled at least half-time in a degree programme, making satisfactory academic progress, and not in default or owing a return repayment on a grant or loan. The programmes below are available to eligible University of Warwick participants. Please note that distance learning participants do not qualify for federal loans, as these are not available to non-US schools or programmes classed as being equivalent to just 25 percent of full-time study.

To borrow funds through the Federal Stafford Loan, either subsidised or unsubsidised, you must complete a Federal Master Promissory Note (MPN) annually in order to receive their Federal Stafford Loan funds. This differs slightly from the regulations when you are studying in the US, where an MPN is valid for 10 years.

The Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan is based on financial need as determined by the Department of Education. The loan is subsidised because the government pays the interest while you are at university at least half-time.

The Federal Unsubsidised Stafford Loan is not based on financial need. Because it is unsubsidised, you are responsible for paying the interest from the time the money is disbursed.

The Graduate PLUS Student Loan for Postgraduate Students is not based on financial need. It is available to students on approved postgraduate courses on condition that they meet certain credit guidelines and the loan is certified by the University.

Irrespective of which loans you choose to fund your studies at Warwick, the University can only certify loans up to the Cost of Attendance (CoA) calculated for you. For further information, please contact either Rory McIntyre at the Graduate School or Paul Cooke at Student Finance.
