Corporate Citizenship & CSR
In this module you will focus on the evolving roles and responsibilities of business in society. You will consider the drivers that promote corporate social and environmental responsibility world-wide, together with the growing expectations stakeholders have of international business. You will explore the implications this new international context has for the energy industry as well as learn from the experiences of other industries.
As a consequence of concerns about the environmental and social impacts of business activities, companies now seek to address the wider and more indirect consequences of their operations. You will study how this involves dialogue with a broader group of stakeholders, what has been learned from this, and how such dialogue may influence companies in the future.
For the energy industry in particular, these additional stakeholders include local host communities, special interest groups, NGOs, and increasingly financial institutions that are concerned about the environmental and social liabilities associated with investment returns.
By the end of this module you will have:
- Understood the changing relationship between business, government, and society, particularly through the concept of the corporation as a citizen
- Analysed the role, scope and responsibilities of business in the global economy
- Understood how sustainable development acts as a link between business, government and civil society
- Learned how the relationship between public policy and business responses has evolved in this area.
