Strategic Global Outsourcing & Offshoring
This module aims to help participants to understand the phenomenon of information technology and business process outsourcing. In particular, the module looks at how its management can be better facilitated. Recent evidence suggests that a number of offshore outsourcing relationships and offshoring projects have failed to live up to some of their promises.
This module therefore offers a broad perspective on various issues relating to the sourcing of systems and processes in a national and global context. It will also examine both the client's and the vendor's involvement in sourcing relationships by placing the emphasis on the key capabilities that each side should develop prior to entering a relationship and, also, as a result of their interactions with each other. The key objectives of the module are:
- to assess the impacts of global sourcing on business
- to assess the risks and benefits for the firm when engaging in sourcing activities
- to devise a plan to outsource a system or a process from a client viewpoint
- to devise a plan to offer services from a vendor viewpoint
- to ensure sustainability over the life cycle of an outsourcing relationship
- to raise awareness of recent developments in the global sourcing arena.
