Management of Change
In this module you will be introduced to the varied types of change in organisations, discussing the available approaches and strategies for introducing change as well as the processes for successfully bringing about and institutionalising it. In particular, you will focus on the issues and dilemmas facing those managing change.
You will study methods and strategies to enable analysis of complex organisational systems in order to decide what needs to change and how to implement it. You will examine the open-ended character of change initiatives, the stubbornness of human behaviour, the persistence of organisational routines and habits, and the possibilities for coping with resistance to change. You will also discuss the micro-foundations of successful organisational interventions, notably the role of language, cognition and behaviour, in conjunction with the management skills that are required for managing the accompanying ambiguity and uncertainty.
By the end of this module, you will have
- Explored concepts, models, and perspectives for understanding the paradoxical nature of organisations
- Considered the implications of those paradoxes for the effective management of complex, purposeful, and indeterminate social systems.
