A head start to an accountancy career
Employers and professional bodies recognise the value of a WBS education and some offer exemptions from stages of their professional qualifications if you have completed specific modules with us. Qualification as an accountant entails sitting examinations with one of the accounting bodies, but the study programmes offered at WBS may provide a level of exemption from this process because they cover some of the same ground.
Accredited accountancy exemptions
- Membership of the ICAEW allows you to audit in the UK and provides a stepping stone into corporate management. This is often seen as a preferred route to private practice. Although changes to the rules have limited the number of exemptions available, it is now possible to sit the Institute's exams while still at university.
- CIMA qualifications are the preferred route for practice in industry, giving you the knowledge and skills to become a business finance professional and avoid the need for audit exams and training.
- ACCA qualifications are often undertaken as a general finance qualification and are suitable for all business areas. With relevant experience you can also audit. ACCA is strong in the developing areas of the world.
View their current exemptions. Remember that professional bodies do change their syllabuses from time to time, so we cannot guarantee that exemptions available at the start of the course will always be available after graduation.
Other accounting & investment recognition
- CIPFA qualifications are most suitable for those entering governmental and public sector bodies.
- Some major accounting firms offer you the alternative of the three stage examination regime set down by the ICAS which also gives you the right to audit company accounts in the UK.
CIPFA and ICAS may offer you some exemptions depending on which modules you take.
As we are now a partner with CFA Institute, completing our BSc in Accounting & Finance can help you to gain Level 1 accreditation for the CFA Program for investment professionals.
