Working in Madrid gave me a chance to be part of a global team in a fast-moving international company
I was thrilled to win UK Undergraduate Student of the Year 2005 for my work with Masterfood in Madrid on my year abroad.
The award was sponsored by the UK's Association of Business Schools (ABS) so is pretty prestigious.
It was a fantastic end to such a great year abroad.
Working for Masterfoods gave me a chance to be part of a global team in a fast-moving international company, learn Spanish and eats lots of chocolate!!
I had loads of fun despite some challenging times over the year.
While the course itself has great modules and many of them are extremely application-focused, I felt the part of my degree which best prepared me for the 'real' world was my year out working for Masterfoods in Madrid.
I guess there is nothing to prepare you for the real world like the real world itself!!
I chose WBS because I thought at the time, and still think, it's the best business school.
When I visited on an open day all the people I met were really enthusiastic and I continue to find that now.
Everyone at WBS is full of praise for the place and seems to enjoy what they do.
The huge variety of modules means you can really tailor the degree to meet your needs, the variety and choice is brilliant.
I've had so much fun, learned about a much broader range of subjects than I had anticipated, and made lots of great friends.
When I leave I will have a well respected degree and practical experience applicable to my career, as well as fluency in another language, Spanish.
Although I don't intend to pursue a career in this area, I have particularly enjoyed the Service Operations Management module.
It is well-taught, interesting and above all fun - I'd recommend it to anyone studying in the business school.
My tuition fees were paid by Deloitte.
Originally, I got a scholarship to work for Arthur Andersen in my gap year, during which time I audited Enron for three of the nine months I was with the firm!
Part of the deal was that they would fund me through university with no-strings-attached, ie I didn't have to go and work for them after graduating.
Arthur Andersen subsequently went bust as a result of the Enron scandal, but when Deloitte took over they also took over the scholarship scheme, so I am now a campus rep for them and in return they pay my tuition fees.
I think my studies have given me a rounded overview of many aspects of business, from marketing to operations to personnel, and I hope to be able to put my Spanish to good use in whatever job I may get!
I would definitely recommend WBS to anyone who would care to listen and I think my fellow students would say the same.
Not only does it have an outstanding reputation, excellent teaching, and lots of investment the University of Warwick itself is fun and friendly.
