Enjoy yourself
[The Students' Union offers]... a social calendar that's more jam-packed than a Krispy Kreme counter.
Excellent security means that, despite the size of campus, it's pretty safe.
The University of Warwick campus offers a vast array of entertainment. Plus you're only an hour away from London by train, 20 minutes from cosmopolitan Birmingham with its stupendous shopping, and 10 minutes from historic Coventry, Stratford-upon-Avon, and Warwick. Do take the opportunity to come to one of our Open Days to see the campus in all its glory.
Students' Union
The major source of entertainment on campus for undergraduates is definitely the brilliant
Students' Union, one of the largest in Europe.
Spread over its own five-floor building, the SU complex is a central part of undergraduate life; you'll probably be in there at least once a day.
It's currently undergoing a multi-million pound redevelopment, reopening in its full splendour in Sept 2009.
Warwick SU services currently include:
- Two night clubs and a venue with 2,700 capacity
- Seven bars and four catering outlets
- A seven-day entertainment programme
- A radio station, RaW 1251am
- WarwickTV
- An award-winning newspaper, The Warwick Boar
- A suite of meeting rooms, advice and welfare services
- Over 75 sports clubs and more than 240 societies.
The Students' Union also coordinates the student societies, of which there are over 200 to join. As well as the usual sports and social clubs, choose anything from Animé and Manga to Amnesty, through Capœira to Cheese & Chocolate. There really is something for everyone. And if your speciality isn't represented, it's easy to set up your own club via the Union.
Sports
Superb provision is made for sports activities by the University:
- An Olympic standard floodlit athletics track
- Five kilometre 'trim track'
- 60 acres of outdoor playing fields and all weather pitches for football, rugby, hockey, and cricket
- A 25-metre six-lane swimming pool
- Squash courts
- Outdoor and, new, indoor tennis centre
- Three multipurpose sports halls
- Weight training and fitness suites
- Sauna
- Over 75 sports clubs run by the Students' Union
- The Midlands' biggest indoor rock-climbing centre.
Warwick Arts Centre
A main cultural focus of the campus is Warwick Arts Centre, one of the UK's largest arts venues.
With its 1,500 seat concert hall, cinema, theatre, studio, and art gallery, as well as a restaurant and bars, it attracts some of the biggest names in the arts.
Recent guests include Peter Brook, Jimmy Carr, the National Theatre, Bryn Terfel, Russell Brand, and Derren Brown.
There are often great ticket deals for University of Warwick students.
There's also a very active Music Centre with a visiting staff of 30 tutors for all instruments and voices, and several drama clubs with differing specialisms.
