WBS offers a myriad of opportunities
Careers
Warwick gives excellent access to career opportunities.
It's a top destination for all employers, who come to campus year-round.
The work experience options that open up are superb.
In 2006 I was with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, and in 2007 Macquarie Bank.
As I graduate and leave WBS, everyone I know seems to have excellent prospects: working across roles in investment banks, such as Goldman Sachs, Rothschild's, and JPMorgan; consultancies such as McKinsey and Accenture; or in accountancy firms including PwC and Deloitte.
I'm going to a graduate job in strategy consulting at LEK.
But the future career choices don't all involve big name employers.
Some students started enterprises while here and went full-time after graduating.
One runs an online music magazine, another a private tuition business, and two others their own fashion clothing line.
Unlike friends on other degrees or at other universities, I've found that WBS has opened me up to so many opportunities.
You never get pigeon-holed or have your options limited here.
A year abroad
I spent an additional year at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
I wanted a new personal challenge, and also felt that the ubiquity of US theory and business style meant I needed an understanding of how the US differed from the UK.
I managed to achieve so much there I even surprised myself!
I worked alongside a local family in a training and consulting firm developing a new marketing plan, and set up three student consulting projects in local organisations.
I flew to San Diego with three other Madison students to represent the University at a national business strategy competition, and worked as a research assistant to a Professor preparing for publication on international entrepreneurship.
And I took extra classes in other subjects on top of my core studies.
My extra year of study was a big help in job hunting.
It not only made me better on paper, but gave me a better understanding of what I really wanted.
I just loved being abroad and learning about other cultures.
When I got back to WBS I saw an advert at the Careers Centre for a three week Study China exchange organised by the Department of Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS).
I applied and got picked to go to Shanghai for three weeks where I learnt Mandarin, and saw some of the many developing world case studies being put into practice.
Flexible
This course is amazingly flexible.
I added an extra year to study in the US at the University of Madison-Wisconsin, others went to Canada, France, Spain, and Germany.
You can also choose to weight your assessment towards exams, essays, presentations, or your own research projects. This lets you build your strengths or develop a broader range of skills.
WBS has helped me develop a wide range of skills: in analysis and critical thinking, through to presenting and networking.
WBS offers a myriad of opportunities. You just need to take them.
