Opportunities at WBS
WBS offers a myriad of opportunities.
You just have to take them.
WBS supports some fabulous opportunities to extend your learning and launch your career.
Through working with companies over the summer, exploring a business project as part of your studies, collaborating with our academics or other students, or learning another language, we're keen you build your experience and CV to gain the best possible career start after your studies.
WBS students also often enter student competitions offered by major companies.
Student internships
An internship can be a fabulous way of increasing your experience and expanding your CV. Tim Kock, BSc Management 2005, won a place with IBM on their Extreme Blue programme. IBM themselves refer to this as their 'premiere internship' so it's very prestigious. Three or four teams from different countries are selected from a very large pool of applicants, over 600 for 16 places in 2007. Each team consists of four people, three technical interns and one business intern, who are given a challenge or a proposal submitted from the IBM community to work on. You can be sure it'll be radical and exciting new stuff.
Take a project module and explore your interests
You can always broaden your experience by choosing a a project module; lots of our students find these very fulfilling. Choosing to do a project as one of your elective modules can be a hugely rewarding experience, allowing you to explore an interest in greater depth. With a bit of thought and preparation, you may even be able to raise sponsorship for your research. See what Dan Harmon, BSc International Business with French 2003 thought of his project module.
The University's Undergraduate Research Scholarship Scheme
Take the chance to become directly involved in the research work of the University, experience what it's like to be a member of a research team, and take part in cutting-edge research. Laura Moczarska, current student on our BSc in Accounting & Finance, took up the challenge.
Warwick Business School Society
The Warwick Business School Society was set up by our students for our students. It provides an opportunity for you to socialise with like-minded students, meet prospective employers, and learn skills to give you an edge in the jobs market. WBSS arranges social, corporate, and sporting events as well as extra learning opportunities including the WBSS Forum.
Learn another language
WBS recognises that a second language is increasingly seen as an essential skill for professionals. It is a compulsory part of our BSc in International Business, and available as an elective option on the other degrees. Languages are either taught by the University of Warwick's state of the art Language Centre, or via the relevant University department. The Language Centre offers over ten languages at a range of levels, for leisure and for degree credit.
