We spoke to Angela about her role as Chair and her vision for the alumni network:

What motivated you to take on the role of chair for the regional alumni network in Africa?

"I received an email from Sarah Pymm (Director of Global Alumni Engagement at WBS) in May 2024 asking me if the role of regional chair for WBS Africa would interest me. Having volunteered as a WBS mentor in 2017-2018, this was giving me another opportunity to give back to the University that had given me my MBA and to the African continent where I have gained so much experience over the years."

What are some of your proudest achievements?

"A career that has spanned almost four decades in financial services, strategy and corporate governance across Africa, by the grace of God has been marked by many achievements. Certainly my MBA from Warwick Business School is one of my notable achievements.

"Another achievement worthy of note was in 2019, travelling across 14 African countries in my capacity as the Chairman of the Board Audit and Governance Committee at United Bank for Africa plc (a leading bank in Africa with presence in 20 countries across Africa, as well as Europe, USA and the Middle East) to build capacity of the local boards in these countries."

What do you enjoy most about being part of the alumni community?

"The diversity of alumni and the rich experience they bring to the network and their achievements in their communities."

What is your vision for the regional alumni network in Africa?

"My vision is to align with the 2030 challenge, working with the other chairs and the team at WBS, leveraging existing programmes and to implement other programmes to ensure that Africa plays its part in ensuring WBS is established in the Top 3 institutions in the UK and Global Top 30, across key indicators including research and education.

Key success factors for alumni network engagement and growth are:

  1. Strong communication channels
  2. Career support and development
  3. Networking opportunities
  4. Lifelong learning opportunities
  5. Recognition and awards
  6. Volunteering & mentorship
  7. Technology infrastructure for data"

And finally, what advice would you give to alumni looking to get more involved with the network?

"Give back, belong and engage!"
