4th Summer School on Decisions From Experience
Warwick Business School, University of Warwick
Coventry, United Kingdom, 16 – 19 August, 2016
Experimental research has shown that people behave very differently when they are not told about payoffs and probabilities but have to learn about them from experience. For example, risk taking behaviour opposite to what prospect theory predicts occurs in experiments on decisions from experience. The emerging field on ‘Decisions from Experience’ tries to understand how learning changes behaviour and choice processes. This Summer School is targeted at doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers and junior faculty in the fields of psychology, cognitive science, behavioural science, and economics who are interested in getting an overview of the emerging field of decisions from experience and learning about the most recent advances. The School will take place at University of Warwick, United Kingdom. It will feature series of lectures by distinguished psychologists and cognitive scientists who have made significant contributions to the field. The speakers and the topics covered during the School include:
Jerker Denrell (Warwick Business School): Rational Models of Decisions from Experience
Ido Erev (Technion and Warwick Business School): Clicking Decisions and the Applications of Basic Study of Decisions from Experience
Cleotilde Gonzalez (Carnegie Mellon University): Adaptation to Change
Ralph Hertwig (Max Planck Institute for Human Development): Sampling - a Quintessential Process.
Thomas Hills (University of Warwick): The Effect of Choice Rich Environments on Risk and Search in Decisions from Experience
Gael Le Mens (Universitat Pompeu Fabra): Understanding How Our Experiences and the Experiences of Others Jointly Affect the Formation of Evaluative Judgments
Elliot Ludvig (University of Warwick): Reinforcement Learning in Humans and Other Animals
The school will foster an interdisciplinary conversation among participants and speakers. There will be ample opportunities for discussions with the lecturers and other participants. Although the school is targeted at junior researchers, all are welcome to attend.
