The Role of Financial Regulation in Climate Change

What are the responsibilities of financial regulators in matters of climate change?  Is it mission creep as some have alleged?  Or just regulators doing the right thing?  And what can they/should they be doing about it anyway?  What can the regulated expect to be coming their way?

This lecture gives the views of a senior ex-regulator, Dr Paul Fisher, in framing and resolving these topical questions.

Paul is an economist who worked for the Bank of England for 26 years, holding senior positions including Executive Director for Markets and Deputy Head of the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA).  He was a member of the Monetary Policy Committee and the PRA Board. He now has a portfolio of roles, including Advisor to CCBS and Chair of the London Bullion Market Association.

Paul is an alumnus and Honorary Professor of Warwick Business School and co-leads on the module on Comparative Central Banking.  This module forms part of the MSc Global Central Banking and Financial Regulation, delivered in partnership with the Bank of England.
