I Hear You: Finding and Using Your Voice

Yvonne Morely voice teacher and vocal coach is working with Rachel Dickinson and Louise Gracia as part of a research project on Gender Quality at WBS, supporting how women are heard in business.

Yvonne has worked with members of the Houses of Parliament and members from two of the Royal Palaces and specialises in communication skills at all levels.

Each of us hear 66% of our voice from inside our own head, suggesting that we are not the most reliable judge when it comes to self-assessing how we sound to, and are heard by, others. This women only workshop is designed for participants to better understand the impact they have on others and the factors influencing this. Experiential in nature, the workshop includes exercises for increasing personal impact, authenticity and effective communication. It will also provide opportunities to consider interpersonal skills and working with differences, particularly that of gender.

Preparation is key, yet one of the modern trends is to prioritise content without the same time given to practice. The old adage challenges us to not just to focus on what we say but how and when we say it. In an ever-changing business environment, our investment in continuous professional development can increase understanding of the opportunities and challenges we face at work and provide the necessary skills for us to remain flexible and adapt effectively to meet them.

The workshop is part of a research project led by Rachel Dickinson and Louise Gracia, building on the Gender Equality Mark, Bronze Award within WBS. Using arts based and theatre informed pedagogies we are exploring the motives behind daily actions and interactions at work, who and what shapes our workplace identity, and the influence these have on institutional discourse, relationships and interactions.

To support the research and in preparation for the workshop we would like each participant to complete a short on-line questionnaire (10-15 mins). This questionnaire will be sent to you post registering for this event.
