Abstract: In this talk I will draw on work within organisational change research to propose an organising framework for the conduct of empirical Behavioural OR (BOR) studies. Specifically, I will review three approaches –variance, process and modelling – that address change processes in distinct but complementary ways. During the talk I will refer to the developing empirical BOR literature to highlight what each approach can offer to those wishing to engage with the BOR agenda. I will end my talk by addressing the implications of the behavioural perspective for advancing the OR discipline, particularly with regards to effective OR practice, and the role of theory and research methodology.
