Career Services for WBS Undergraduate Students

23 April 2018

The WBS CareersPlus team provides a specialised careers service solely for Warwick Business School students. In this blog, we find out about the services our undergraduate students get access to when they join WBS.

In addition to accessing the University of Warwick Student Careers and Skills service, the bespoke WBS CareersPlus service exists to help undergraduate students in Warwick Business School to develop themselves, enhance their employability skills and achieve their career goals, supporting them throughout their entire 3 - 4 year programme with us.

The WBS CareersPlus team provides an array of services, such as; one to one coaching, CV, cover letter and application checks, interview techniques and various career workshops. We host workshops that cover all aspects of a typical application process from building a successful CV to passing the process at an assessment centre. More tailored, bespoke workshops are also offered throughout the academic year for our Undergraduate courses and to support students on the Foundation Year programme, those applying to placement years, working or studying abroad and there are also employability sessions embedded within the academic curriculum.

The workshops our students take part in provide excellent insight and aim to build competence and confidence in preparation for going into the workplace. Whether that be for an insight day in your first year, summer internship, placement year or graduate level position.

During one-to-one coaching sessions, the team help students to prepare for all aspects of the recruitment process. We can run mock interviews and also offer self-awareness and personal development support, including helping students to identify their preferred career path, understand themselves and how that matches the needs of employers. We also provide feedback on how to strengthen applications, tailor it to specific employers and enhance their chances of success. During vacation periods, the team also offers support by phone, email and Skype for easy access to students.

We also have a broad range of online resources which are accessible 24/7, including video clips of the essential content from our group workshops, an online video interview system, VMOCK CV checking software and a range of electronic guides and free subscriptions that students can utilise.

Our students receive a weekly careers E-bulletin with a summary of all the essential information for the week’s careers news and upcoming events, so no one misses out. We also have a dedicated WBS Undergraduate Careers Facebook page with over 2,500 current student and alumni members where we advertise the latest job opportunities, careers news, events and further support.

Furthermore, we work alongside the Corporate Relations team in helping identify campus recruiter visits based on individuals’ past experiences and career motivations. We organise employer events which promote summer internships, year in industry placements and graduate opportunities. We also host employer led skills workshops and run informal networking sessions. Bespoke employer events organised specifically for WBS students has seen the likes of EY, L’Oréal, Aldi, Johnson and Johnson, RBS, Grant Thornton, Accenture and Aston Martin attend the business school, which provides our students access to great networking opportunities and links with top national and international brands, as well as a range of local SMEs too.

The CareersPlus team are always on hand to support you with any career needs you have, and we would recommend to any prospective students that you engage with the team as much as possible to enhance your employability, in preparation for your exciting upcoming graduate career.
