Evolving as a Leader in Finance and Investment: My Executive MBA Journey at Warwick Business School

I joined the Executive MBA at a point in my career when I had already spent more than a decade making strategic decisions in the Peruvian financial system. As a senior executive in investment and financial markets at one of Peru’s largest banks - the third largest in the country - my work requires navigating complex regulatory environments, interpreting market signals, and influencing the institution’s financial position through high-impact decisions.

Reaching this stage made one thing clear: to continue growing, I needed a learning environment that would stretch my thinking. I was not seeking validation of my experience; I was seeking a programme that would elevate my leadership and equip me with the strategic clarity to approach my work through a broader, more forward‑looking lens. Warwick offered exactly that - academic rigor, strategic depth, and the kind of intellectual challenge that forces you to rethink how you analyse markets, risk, and long‑term value.

Achieving a scholarship

Receiving the MBA Inspiring Females Scholarship strengthened my resolve. Women are increasingly shaping the financial sector, yet representation in senior roles remains limited. This scholarship is both recognition and responsibility: a reminder that leadership also means serving as a visible role model for younger women who aspire to build careers in finance, investments, and strategic decision-making. Being a woman in this industry is not only about advancing your own career - it is about widening the path for those who will come after you.

Why Warwick was the right choice

Warwick Business School’s Executive MBA stood out to me because it is designed for professionals already operating at a senior level. The programme respects the demands of senior roles while providing something essential: the space to think with clarity, depth, and intention.

So far, I have completed six core modules that have strengthened my ability to evaluate organisations holistically, understand how value is created, and identify opportunities to innovate and execute with greater impact. Each module has expanded how I analyse businesses and assess investment opportunities, giving me a more complete and strategic lens - one that is indispensable in the world of finance.

Personalising my MBA

The programme also lets you personalise your learning through four elective modules. This flexibility is one of Warwick’s greatest strengths: it enables you to deepen your expertise in areas that align most closely with your professional goals.

Among the electives I selected, two have been particularly meaningful: Big Data and Business Analytics and Entrepreneurial Finance and Venture Capital. Both courses reinforce the analytical and strategic capabilities required in the investment field.

Working with data is central to my profession, and the ability to transform information into insight is a differentiator. These courses are strengthening that capability and giving me the tools to build the foundation for my own startup - an initiative that draws directly on my experience in investments and my desire to create solutions that generate long-term value.

How the programme is transforming my approach

The Executive MBA has sharpened my ability to evaluate trade-offs, understand organisational behavior, and interpret market dynamics through a broader, more strategic lens.

Equally enriching has been the cohort's global diversity. Studying alongside professionals from across Europe, Africa, and Latin America, each bringing perspectives shaped by their markets and industries, has elevated the quality of every discussion. These interactions challenge assumptions, broaden strategic thinking, and reinforce the importance of diverse leadership, especially for women in finance.

One of the most valuable aspects of the programme is that it culminates in a dissertation, which is not just an academic requirement but a strategic opportunity to build something of your own. I am using it to lay the foundations of my startup, integrating everything I have learnt, and testing ideas with academic rigor. It is the perfect bridge among my professional experience, my entrepreneurial vision, and the impact I want to create.

Balancing an Executive MBA with a senior leadership role is demanding, but the discipline of producing rigorous work while managing a high-pressure job has strengthened my ability to think with structure, intention, and strategic clarity.

Why I recommend this path

Continuous learning is one of the most powerful investments a professional can make. An Executive MBA is more than an academic milestone - it is a catalyst for transformation. It challenges you to question how you lead, how you make decisions, and how you create value. For professionals seeking to stay relevant, expand their thinking, and lead with greater impact, the Executive MBA at Warwick is an exceptional choice.

It is especially meaningful for women in finance. Programmes like this not only strengthen your technical and strategic capabilities - they amplify your voice, expand your network, and position you to lead with confidence in an industry where representation still has room to grow. Choosing this path is an investment in yourself, in your leadership, and in the women who will follow.

My goal is not only to grow as a leader but also to help shape a more diverse, innovative, and forward-thinking financial industry - one where more women can lead, build, and transform the future.
