Tell us a bit about yourself.
I have an academic background in physics and currently work as a Manufacturing Engineering Manager at the technology company Renishaw. In my role, I provide technical leadership within a fast-paced environment, overseeing a department of approximately 50 technical staff.
What first attracted you to Warwick Business School?
Warwick Business School first caught my attention because of its strong reputation and high rankings. When looking into MBA options, I wanted an institution that provided high academic quality due to the significant investment required for an MBA. The balance of academic and practical application provided in their courses was another key factor.
Why did you ultimately choose Warwick Business School for your MBA?
My decision came down to the structure of the part-time course and the experience of the cohort. WBS requires a minimum level of professional experience, which was crucial for me as I wanted to ensure I was studying alongside people I could genuinely learn from and network with. The part-time format meant I could fit the studies around my current work commitments while building those connections.
What elements of the programme do you value the most and why?
What stands out most for me is the quality of the teaching and the level of support provided across the programme.
- Academic delivery: The modules are well thought through, with clear learning objectives and transparent assignment criteria. Lecturers strike a good balance between academic theory and practical application, ensuring you understand topics from both perspectives. The teaching adapts well to the cohort’s questions and backgrounds, with discussions handled effectively.
- Administrative support: The course coordination and support team are very responsive. Everything from onboarding to module flexibility and additional business subscriptions is handled smoothly. Having those logistics run without friction allows me to focus on studying without unnecessary distraction.
What is it like studying for an MBA?
It is certainly intense but rewarding. Time spent on campus (in lectures and group discussion) presents a very different intellectual challenge compared to my job role. It stretches your thinking and helps you step back to look at the broader strategic picture.
I’ve been able to bring those insights directly back into my current role - for example, seeing how customer-focused objectives and marketing principles apply across all areas of a business, including operations to allow me to contribute more effectively to the business as a whole.
Do you have any advice for anyone currently thinking about studying for an MBA?
Plan your time carefully and be clear about what you want to gain from the experience. An MBA requires commitment but is highly rewarding if you give yourself the space to fully engage.
What do you hope to get out of our programme? What have you actually got so far?
I joined the course to gain a broader understanding of business, see how different industries operate, and better understand the wider leadership challenges organisations face today. So far, it has delivered on that. Studying alongside professionals from varied backgrounds has given me new perspectives and practical approaches to tackling commercial issues in my own work. It’s also allowed me to network and learn more about other engineering businesses.
Tell us about the community at Warwick Business School.

How do you find the work/life balance?
Balancing work, study, and personal life is challenging, but the course offers enough flexibility that you can adjust the study pace around major commitments. Planning ahead is essential. Because the topics and assignments are directly relevant to real-world business, staying focused is easy once you set aside time.
