Business Leader Series: Matthew Kent, Nationwide Building Society

Our Business Leader Series was originally created to mark the 50th Anniversary of WBS.  It was so well-received by both speakers and guests alike, we are delighted to have extended the Series for a second year. 

Join us at our Warwick campus on Wednesday 21st March hear from WBS alumnus, Matthew Kent, Head of Credit Risk Analysis at Nationwide Building Society.

Guest Speaker Biography

Matthew is a senior executive with over 20 years of experience in financial services.  His current role is Head of Credit Risk Measurement at Nationwide, the world's largest building society.  Reporting to the Chief Credit Officer, Matthew is responsible for the measurement of credit risks faced by the Society from the c. £200bn assets on the balance sheet.  He leads a team of around 50 Risk professionals, with responsibility for risk analysis and insight, bad debt provisions, capital forecasting, Commercial Real Estate and Public Sector risk models, risk data and systems, and critical and regulatory reporting.

Matthew regularly undertakes the role of divisional lead for multi-million pound projects, with recent examples being IFRS9 provisions standards, and BCBS239 data aggregation and reporting standards.  In addition, he is a member of Nationwide’s 'Leadership 200', which is the group of the 200 most senior and influential individuals in the Society.

Prior to Nationwide, Matthew worked at Santander in a number of roles, including leading teams responsible for Secured Credit Risk Strategy, Provisions and Forecasting, and Retail IRB Capital Modelling.

At an industry level Matthew represented the Council of Mortgage Lenders on the Steering Committee on Reciprocity, the cross-industry body responsible for the development and administration of data sharing rules.
Matthew holds a degree in Economics and Mathematical Sciences, and a MBA from Warwick Business School.

This Business Leader event will run after an Accounting and Financial Management module for Warwick Executive MBA students who are expected to attend and therefore do not need to register.  There are also limited spaces are available to all other MBA student groups and Warwick Alumni, though you will need to register for this event in advance.
