WBS Distinguished Lecture Series with Baroness Ruby McGregor-Smith, Thursday, 19 May

We are pleased to announce that for the final Distinguished Lecture in our 2021/2022 Distinguished Lecture Series, we will be hosting Baroness Ruby McGregor-Smith for an ‘In Conversation With’ event, hosted by Dr Maja Korica, Reader in Management and Organisation at WBS. The conversation will touch upon a range of issues, from the post-pandemic UK economy, employment and the role of education, to women in business and greater inclusion in the workplace, including racial inclusion.

Baroness Ruby McGregor-Smith is an accomplished business executive and a Conservative peer in the House of Lords. She is the former CEO of the Mitie Group, a strategic outsourcing company, which made her the first Asian woman CEO in the FTSE 250. She previously served as the chair of the Women’s Business Council and is currently serving as a non-executive board member of the Department of Education, chair of the Institute of Apprenticeships and Technical Education, and president of the British Chambers of Commerce. She authored the ‘Race in the workplace: The McGregor-Smith Review’ independent report, which focused on issues affecting black and minority ethnic (BME) groups in the workplace. In January, she was appointed the new President of the CIPD, the UK professional body for HR and people development. She received a CBE for services to business and diversity in business in 2012 and was created a life peer in 2015.
