Black in Business at WBS: Building Community, Opportunity, and Impact

11 February 2025

The Black in Business Club at Warwick Business School is dedicated to empowering Black students through mentorship, networking, and career opportunities. President Tee Bello shares more information about the club's aims and goals, as well as exciting upcoming initiatives.

What is the Black in Business Club?

The Black in Business Club at Warwick Business School (WBS) exists to empower, connect, and support Black students and professionals within the MBA programme and beyond. Our mission is simple but powerful: to create a space where Black students feel seen, valued, and equipped to succeed in business. We focus on career advancement, networking, mentorship, and celebrating the rich diversity of Black excellence.

While the club is centred on supporting Black students, we believe that diversity and inclusion benefit the entire business community. That’s why many of our events and initiatives are open to all Warwick students who are passionate about driving equity and representation in leadership.

Why I stepped up as President

Taking on the role of President was a natural step for me. As someone with a business background I’ve seen first-hand the importance of strong networks, mentorship, and representation in business. I wanted to ensure that Black MBA students at Warwick have access to the same opportunities and support systems that can help them thrive, both within the Business School and in their future careers. Leading this Club is about fostering a community that uplifts and supports one another while also creating meaningful engagement with the broader business school.

Beyond that, I see this as an opportunity to build something lasting—something that extends beyond a single academic year. Leadership isn’t just about holding a position; it’s about creating impact, fostering community, and ensuring that the next group of students has an even stronger foundation to build on.

Highlights so far

This year, we have focused on strengthening our presence and expanding our impact. From speaker events featuring Black industry leaders to intimate networking sessions, we’re intentional about creating spaces for connection and growth. We're also working on partnerships that give our members direct access to career opportunities, mentorship, and industry insights. Balancing this with the demands of an MBA has been challenging but rewarding. Time management, teamwork, and leaning on the strengths of my executive team have been key.

What’s next for Black in Business?

Looking ahead, we want to make Black in Business an even stronger force at Warwick. We’re planning initiatives that will not only support Black students but also contribute to the wider WBS community. Some upcoming projects include:

A cross-club leadership summit: Partnering with other MBA clubs to discuss diversity, leadership, and inclusive business practices. The date will be announced soon, so stay tuned for updates!

An industry mentorship programme: Connecting students with Black professionals across finance, consulting, tech, and entrepreneurship. We are currently accepting applications for this programme. If you’re interested in joining a mentee or mentor, you can apply here.

A podcast series on Black excellence in business: Showcasing the achievements of Black professionals through interviews, case studies, and thought leadership pieces. This platform will highlight key lessons, career journeys, and industry insights to inspire and educate both our members and the broader Warwick community.

At the heart of everything we do is the commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable future. Being part of Black in Business isn’t just about networking—it’s about creating a legacy of empowerment and opportunity for the next generation.
