Autumn days on campus
When you think of Autumn, what comes to mind?
Unless you were momentarily distracted by how it’s already Autumn, you likely thought of change. Whether that’s the change in temperature, the colour of the leaves, or Pret’s seasonal drinks menu (arguably the most important change), campus never stops changing. Even though winter seems far away, I’ve created a list of things to help you make the most of autumn at Warwick before the seasons change too:
Old traditions, new friends
In 2024, experts found that on average, student friendships that began in Autumn lasted nine times longer than relationships started in any other season. Maybe it’s the crisp air or the comfort the season brings; or maybe, it’s because I made that fact up… Either way, it’s hard to deny that Autumn seems like the perfect time to expand your community. So invite that classmate, fellow society member, or flatmate you’ve been wanting to get to know better for a warm drink and a walk beneath the falling leaves.
Why not take it a step further and share your favourite autumn traditions with your new friends? Warwick has plenty of cultural celebrations, pop-up events, and community meet-ups for everyone to enjoy. From vibrant global illumination processions to lively Diwali nights and Eastern European folk workshops, Warwick makes it easy to create lasting memories and friendships that will probably last nine times longer than those started in any other season.

Let the season ground you
Between lectures and late-night study sessions, taking a walk is the simplest way to reset and recharge. It's important to take a breath and admire the scenery before winter takes over. Let’s be honest, the views in these photos are something to be admired. Don’t be afraid to explore campus and its surrounding area; it’s easy to lose sight of your wellbeing when looming due-dates crowd your vision, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less important.
The art of enjoying the rain

If you are reading this blog in Coventry, in Autumn, there is a 32% chance that it will rain today (sadly, this fact is real). On days like this, it’s hard not to let the rain dampen your daily reset. But don’t give up too fast. You can still use the rain to set the mood for a slow and comforting day indoors. Movie marathons are always an option if the studies get too much; pyjamas, pillows, blankets, and a couple of good friends are optional extras but strongly advised. If movies aren't your forte, try picking up a book or puzzle instead. There are so many ways to enjoy the changing season that don’t involve going outside.
Savour the season
Literally. Known for its bountiful harvests, Autumn is the perfect time to try out the UK’s seasonal fruits and vegetables. For cheaper food that’s more flavourful, harvest the momentum of Britain's fresh and local produce. Leeks, pumpkins, and potatoes make the perfect base for any cozy soup your imagination can cook up. If you are more of a sweet tooth, few flavours encapsulate the season better than cinnamon, apples, and pumpkin spice, so make that pumpkin pie, you know you want to! If you aren’t in the cooking mood (student cooking has a reputation for a reason), why not head to the piazza on a Wednesday to tackle some of the best dishes campus has to offer? My recommendation: check out Spud’s for loaded potatoes (that’s pretty much all they offer, but they are divine). Plus, it’ll keep you nice and warm on your chilly walk back to class.
A final word
When you think of autumn, I still want you to picture change. But instead of the changing temperatures, picture all the new friends you will make, memories you will cherish, and flavors you will savour. But you can’t experience this within the four walls of your room. So wrap up warm and explore all that campus has to offer before change takes over again.
