My favourite study spaces on and off campus

Looking for some inspiration for your next study session? The University of Warwick offers a wide range of study locations to choose from, whether you're looking for a quiet space to revise, or a more collaborative environment to exchange ideas. Undergraduate student Ashley Lazenby shares some of his favourite places to study, both on campus and further afield.

On campus:

The Library

Especially during exam season, I found that my study space made all the difference. One of my personal favourite places was the library. Whether it was floors 1 and 2 for collaborative group projects or floor 4 for focused, independent study, the library consistently catered to a range of study needs. The calm environment helped me stay concentrated, while the shared purpose of those studying nearby kept me motivated. The library café also provided the perfect space to take a break and grab lunch - and in moments of low energy, the vending machines were always a reliable source of a quick sugar boost!

WBS Undergraduate Space

Another study space I often gravitated towards was the undergraduate area in the business school. The open floor plan created a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, which helped ease stress - especially during busy exam periods. The layout of the tables was particularly useful when discussing ideas with peers, making it easy to work through exam questions collaboratively while still staying productive. This space struck a good balance between focus and interaction, which made studying feel less isolating. The availability of free tea sachets and sugar was a bonus, offering a simple but much-needed moment to pause, recharge, and reset before getting back to work.

The Faculty of Arts Building was a study space I often turned to when I needed a change of pace - or even just a change of scenery. It feels calm and unhurried, which was refreshing compared to some of the busier spots on campus.

One hidden gem that many students gravitate towards is the seating along the stairs at the entrance, where there always seemed to be someone quietly working. During the more intense points of the academic year, this space felt like a small escape from the pressure, with a quiet table usually available to reset while still staying productive. Studying in this building made the workload feel more manageable and helped me stay grounded.

Off campus:

Cafés

During your time at the University of Warwick, there will be moments when a trip off campus feels like exactly what you need, and fortunately, Leamington Spa is just a short bus ride away. The town offers several great cafés to study in - Café Royal, Bewitched Coffee, and Temperance, to name just a few. Beyond enjoying a hot drink during the colder months, studying in a café provides a change of scenery that can help reset your concentration and make it easier to tackle your work with a clearer, refreshed mind.

Parks & green spaces

When stress feels overwhelming, I always find it helpful to spend some time in nature. Being surrounded by green spaces not only helps me feel calm but also refreshed and more focused. Taking a walk outside allows me to step away from deadlines and screens, giving my mind a chance to reset. I often notice that ideas flow more easily after a short time outdoors, and even just sitting quietly on a bench or under a tree can bring a sense of perspective. For me, these moments in nature are small but powerful ways to recharge both mentally and emotionally.
