AI Leadership programme participant, Philip Hill, shares his experience at WBS.
My name is Philip Hill, and I recently attended the AI Leadership programme at Warwick Business School, having previously completed the Diploma in Strategy and Innovation with WBS. I was motivated to apply because AI is increasingly central to long-term business strategy, and I wanted to develop a clear, realistic understanding of how leaders should think about its opportunities, risks, and organisational impact, beyond the hype. I chose this programme specifically for its strategic and leadership focus, rather than a purely technical angle, and because WBS has a strong reputation for combining academic rigour with real-world relevance.
What stood out most was the quality of the programme and the faculty. The professors are true experts in their respective fields, and the content was delivered in a way that was both intellectually challenging and highly engaging. The programme highlighted the genuine possibilities available with AI, while also encouraging critical thinking about governance, ethics, and implementation. The use of case studies and strategic discussion made the learning immediately applicable.
I particularly enjoyed the collaborative elements of the programme, including discussions with the cohort, who came from a wide range of industries and leadership roles. Networking with peers added significant value, as did learning in The Shard, which provided an excellent and inspiring environment aligned with the forward-looking nature of the subject matter.
From the programme, I have taken away practical frameworks and a much clearer strategic perspective on how AI can be used to support decision-making and competitive advantage within an organisation. It has already influenced how I approach AI-related conversations and strategy in my workplace. My advice to anyone considering applying would be to approach the programme with an open mind and a willingness to challenge assumptions—this is not about technology for technology’s sake, but about leadership, strategy, and real business impact. Based on my consistent positive experiences, WBS was a natural choice for this programme, and it has once again proven to be a genuinely worthwhile investment.
