Careers blog: How the Alumni Careers Service helped me after graduation

We recently spoke to MSc alum Shriram Jeevakumar about his experience with the CareersPlus team. Shriram, a Marketing Executive at Jisp, worked closely with Alumni Careers Manager Konstantina Dee to navigate the job market after completing his programme. Here, we find out more about his experience: 

Can you describe your career path  since graduating and how WBS CareersPlus has supported you along the way?
"After completing my course, I initially worked remotely as a Brand Content Strategist for a U.S.-based company. While it was a great experience, I was eager to transition into a UK-based role where I could fully apply the skills and knowledge I gained at WBS. That’s where the WBS CareersPlus team—and especially Konstantina Dee —truly made a difference.

“From mock interviews to strategic guidance on navigating the UK job market, Konstantina was a constant source of support and encouragement. She not only helped me prepare for interviews but also gave me clarity on which companies and industries to focus on.

“As Oprah Winfrey once said, “A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself.” Konstantina did exactly that—she helped me see possibilities I hadn’t fully embraced and gave me the confidence to pursue them. I’m incredibly grateful for her mentorship and the continued support from WBS CareersPlus."

Have you had a career transition, and if so, how did WBS CareersPlus assist you during this period?
“Yes, I went through a bit of a career transition. Back in India, I worked as a political marketer, leading election campaigns through strategic marketing initiatives. It was a dynamic and impactful role—but when I moved to the UK, I found it challenging to find a similar position in that niche.

“That’s when I decided to pivot into the tech and general marketing space, drawing on my undergraduate background in IT. The transition wasn’t easy, but WBS CareersPlus were incredibly supportive throughout. Konstantina helped me identify my transferable skills and reframe my experience in a way that resonated with hiring managers. Her guidance made all the difference. I felt more confident in interviews and had a clearer understanding of how my experience could add value in new industries. I'm truly grateful for the support and encouragement I received during that crucial time.”

Can you tell us about your current role and how WBS CareersPlus Alumni supported you to secure you to secure it?
“Yes, and it’s a story I love to share! During the final round of interviews for my current role, I was asked to prepare and present a 360-degree marketing campaign. It was a high-stakes moment, and honestly, it could’ve been overwhelming—but that’s where WBS CareersPlus made all the difference.

“Konstantina didn’t just give me advice—she truly partnered with me. We brainstormed the structure of the presentation together, and I had the chance to rehearse it with her not once, but twice before the big day. That practise gave me a huge boost of confidence and helped me walk into the interview feeling fully prepared and empowered.

"As Jim Rohn said, “My mentor said, ‘Let’s go do it,’ not ‘You go do it.’ How powerful when someone says, ‘Let’s!’ Konstantina embodied that spirit completely. Her support felt like a true collaboration, and I’m incredibly grateful for her encouragement throughout the process. It really helped me secure the role and step into it with confidence.”

What are your future career goals or aspirations, and how do you plan to leverage WBS CareersPlus to achieve  them?
“Looking ahead, my goal is to grow my career within a multinational company where I can lead global marketing campaigns and create impact on a worldwide scale. I’m excited about the opportunity to work across diverse markets and cultures, and to take my strategic skills to the next level.

“I'm continuing to stay in touch with the WBS CareersPlus team as I plan this next step. Konstantina has been incredibly helpful in guiding me through the process of identifying the right companies, positioning my profile, and preparing for the transition. I’m really grateful to have such a supportive network backing me as I move forward with my aspirations!”

Are there any specific skills or knowledge you gained from WBS CareersPlus that have been particularly  valuable in your career?
"I’m truly grateful for the practical tools and mindset WBS CareersPlus helped me develop. These 3 C’s continue to guide me every day in my career journey: Confidence, Consistency, and Collaboration."

How has being an alum of WBS and using Alumni Careers services benefited you and your career?
“Absolutely—being a WBS alum and using the Alumni Careers services has been incredibly impactful for me. All the examples I’ve shared truly speak for themselves! The support, guidance, and encouragement I’ve received have played a key role in shaping my career journey.

“I feel proud to be part of such a vibrant and supportive alumni community, and I know I’ll continue to benefit from it as I grow professionally. I'm genuinely grateful for everything WBS has offered me, even beyond graduation.”

What advice would you give to recent graduates about making the most of WBS Alumni Careers services?
“My advice to recent graduates is simple but powerful: “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you” – Matthew 7:7. The support is there—you just need to reach out and make the most of it!

“WBS Alumni Careers services are an incredible resource. Whether it’s career guidance, mock interviews, networking opportunities, or just a word of encouragement, help is always available. Get on the ladder, take that first step, and keep climbing—because truly, the sky is the limit!

“Stay curious, stay consistent, and never hesitate to ask for support. You’ll be amazed at how far it can take you.”
