My first term at Warwick Business School

10 February 2025

MSc Business with Marketing student, Raghav Gupta, sat down with us to discuss how his WBS journey has been so far.

My first term at Warwick Business School has been a fruitful and incredible journey filled with networking, growth, learning and creating memorable experiences. Coming from India and transitioning into university was a big change, but WBS ensured that I could make it a rewarding and exciting experience.

One of the key advantages of my first term has been the array of multiple opportunities available on campus to engage with. I was able to engage in lectures and practical assignments and take part in extracurricular activities that are hosted within WBS to care for mental wellbeing throughout the term. We engaged with a lot of conferences and parties which helped me to make a lot of friends on campus.

WBS offers a lot of facilities throughout campus and my favourite one is sitting and preparing for group assignments in the Postgraduate study lounge while sipping delicious coffee from the WBS café.

WBS is located within the University of Warwick campus which is surrounded by green spaces and modern facilities. The school itself offers state-of-the-art classrooms, collaborative spaces and the world’s best faculty and programme teams.

My MSc course

My course has exceeded my expectations. It has a blend of lectures, workshops and hands-on projects which will help you develop skills in Business as well as marketing. The intelligently designed modules helped me to collaborate with my peers and apply theories learnt to real-world problems.

One stand-out experience was to apply theoretical concepts to solve real-world problems. Collaborating with peers from multiple cultural diversities and academic backgrounds made the learning experience enjoyable.

The faculty is incredibly supportive, always encouraging us to challenge ourselves and think critically. The workload can be sometimes intense but personally, the satisfaction felt after submitting an assignment or acing a presentation is unmatchable.

WBS is a fantastic place to build strong connections. From day one, there has been a strong emphasis on collaboration, both inside and outside the classroom. The welcome week was particularly beneficial for breaking the ice and getting to know more about my cohort.

Away from studies

Wellbeing events and parties hosted by WBS allow us to meet new people to socialise with. Along with this, joining various societies in the university has allowed me to meet people with similar interests and ambitions.

The social events at Warwick are vibrant and inclusive. In the welcome week itself, there are multiple events hosted by the Warwick Student's Union including various parties and ice-breaking events. There are a lot of pub quizzes and dance workshops held throughout the term by societies.

I went on trips to Christmas markets during the end of Term 1, where we were taken to Bristol and Manchester. One memorable event was during welcome week where we danced and had delicious food and drinks.

My advice for you

WBS isn’t just a business school, it is a place where you will grow academically, professionally and personally. Be prepared to step out of your comfort zone whether that be through challenging coursework, public speaking or meeting new people.

Make use of the resources available like career coaches, online resources, sports and wellbeing centres and other extracurricular activities. Lastly don’t forget to enjoy your journey to create memories and friends that will last a lifetime.

My final thoughts about my first term at WBS have been nothing short of a transformative journey. It has helped me to find opportunities which can meet my passion and ambitions with which I came from my home country. I can’t wait to see what my next term holds.

For anyone still doubting WBS being the right choice, I can confidently say that it is worth taking that shot.
